School Emergency and Cancellation Information HVM follows the Haverhill Public School system for Emergency and Cancellation Information. CANCELLING SCHOOL When there is inclement weather, individuals from the city, the school department, and the transportation company determine whether it is unsafe for buses to travel. If it is determined unsafe, schools will be closed for that day or delayed for two hours if road conditions can be improved. (During inclement weather, buses may drive more slowly and may be late arriving at bus stops.) “School Closing” or “Two-Hour Delayed Opening” are announced on radio and TV by 6:00 am. · Radio Stations: WBZ AM 1030, WRKO AM 680 · TV Stations: 4, 5, 7 and 32 DELAYED OPENINGS Delayed openings are used only if they allow enough time to prepare the roads for safe transportation. When the opening of school is delayed, the radio and TV stations above will announce “delayed opening – two hours, Haverhill.” During delayed openings, school will start two hours later. Bus pickup, therefore, will also occur two hours later. For example, if your child is normally picked up at 8:30 a.m., he/she will instead be picked up at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be available, and student dismissals will be at the regularly scheduled time. Before Care is not available on days with a delayed opening. EMERGENCY DISMISSALS If it is necesary to dismiss schools prior to regular time due to impending inclement weather, HVM will contact parents/guardians, either by telephone or via email, to come and pick up their child(ren). If we are unable to contact the parents/guardians, we will use the contact information provided on the emergency contact form.
